This pilot study provides, for the first time, an overview of funds with a donation component that are approved for distribution in Germany, Austria, and/or Switzerland (the DACH region). It contains aggregated data on the funds, the donation models, as well as the amount and use of the donations. In addition, it shows whether platforms and European labels for sustainable financial products take donation components into account, offers insights into different perspectives from interviews with 16 experts, and includes profiles of specific funds with a donation component.
Funds with a donation component are understood to be financial products in which a portion of the revenue is allocated to social and environmental purposes. A donation component is considered to exist only if it is understood as a feature of individual products and is permanently linked to the respective fund as a rule-based component.
The research identified 36 funds with a donation component that are approved for distribution in the DACH region. The aggregated volume of these funds amounts to €8.3 billion, whereby for funds that implement a donation component only at the level of individual share classes, only those were included in the calculation.
The pilot study was made possible through sponsorship support. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Candriam, GLS Investment Management GmbH, Green Growth Futura GmbH, and Security Kapitalanlage AG.
